Zandjan (also Sandjan) is a district in western Iran surrounded by important carpet areas: in the north by Hamadan, in the east by Bidjar and in the west by Ghaswin. Due to all these influences, there is a large variety of patterns from this area. The carpets are made entirely by the farmers' wives at home, using the Turkish knot that is common in Persian carpets. The carpets have very good wool and are therefore hard-wearing.
