Melas carpets, with their characteristic colors and compositions, have long held a special place in western Anatolian carpet art. Although very different colors were common in the carpets of this region in the past, the colors made from purely vegetable materials in pastel shades are now characteristic. The warp, weft and pile of Milas carpets consist exclusively of valuable pure wool; the predominant colors are yellow and brown tones with dark peach red.
