Ourantique collection
This Kasak is over 80 years old and is therefore a wonderful addition to our antique collection.
The carpets under this name come from the Nagorno Karabagh region (“High Black Garden”), located in the south of Azerbaijan, whose population is of Armenian origin. The art of carpet weaving here has ancient roots and has been influenced by Persia and the Caucasus over the centuries. For this reason, the carpets from this region are characterized by very different features. Some examples are decorated with geometric patterns similar to those from other Caucasian provinces, while others (much more original) are inspired by Western models. The latter draw on floral motifs from the French examples from Aubusson, but interpret them in an oriental way, creating original designs that are particularly striking for their color compositions, in which lively and bright tones contrast with each other. Various figures, again of French origin, appear on some of the Karabagh. As far as workmanship is concerned, the Karabagh have a warp made of both wool and cotton, while the pile is always made of wool. The knot density is relatively moderate and the wool used is of good quality
