The name Bakhtiar comes from the time when the landowners of the area in which these carpets are knotted were Bakhtiars. Today, Bakhtiar carpets are knotted by local farmers. The Bakhtiar is therefore not a nomadic carpet, as is often assumed. The center of Bakhtiari knotting is Shar Kurd (city of the Kurds), which shows that the original inhabitants were Kurdish. Overall, Bakhtiari carpets are rustic carpets with a distinct character and durability.
