Romanian carpets are classified under the collective term of Balkan carpets. A certain tradition is proven by the carpets made in Braila and Banat from the 16th/17th century onwards, which were modelled on the so-called Transylvanians who came to the country from Usak. State-run workshops were operated in cooperatives throughout Romania, which produced large quantities of knotted carpets and kilims. Persian motifs were mainly produced in various knotting settings. Due to accession to the EU, including the associated higher wages, carpet production in Romania no longer exists today.
